Bringing Safe Spaces to Bougainville’s Children

Bougainville Sankamap Australia Association Inc continues to deliver meaningful impact through the Play Laugh Grow Children’s Playground Project. These new playground installations are creating safe, joyful spaces where children can play freely, build friendships, and learn through movement and imagination.

Over recent installation days in Arawa, community members, youth groups, and local partners worked together to unpack, prepare, and assemble repurposed playground equipment. The result is more than a playground — it is a shared space that supports healthy child development and strengthens community connection.

Playground installation work in Bougainville

Objective

The objective of this update is to share the progress of our playground installs and highlight the teamwork behind each milestone — from shipping and preparation to installation and community engagement.

“Playground spaces are enablers — achieving so much more during play.”

Key Work Completed

  • Unpacking & Preparation: Sorting, sanding, painting, and checking equipment to ensure it is safe and ready for children.
  • Site Movement & Setup: Transporting equipment to installation sites and preparing foundations for stability.
  • Two Installs Completed: Successful installs completed with strong volunteer turnout and community support.
  • Partners on the Ground: Collaboration with councils, youth groups, and local construction support to keep work moving efficiently.
  • Community Engagement: Families and children visiting the site each day — building excitement and ownership around the project.
Community Impact

For many children, safe play spaces are limited. These playgrounds help create a healthier environment for physical activity, social development, and emotional wellbeing — while also giving parents a welcoming community space to gather.

Support & Transparency

This project is only possible through shared support — community volunteers, partners on the ground, donors, and fundraising events. Every contribution helps create a safe and lasting space for Bougainville’s children.
